Job Description

Skydio is the leading US drone company and the world leader in autonomous flight, the key technology for the future of drones and aerial transportation. The Skydio team combines deep expertise in artificial intelligence, best-in-class hardware and software product development, and operational excellence to empower a broader, more diverse audience of drone users - from first responders to insurance claims adjusters, utilities, and more!

About the role:

We are looking for interns for Summer 2025. Truly autonomous drones are a new product category that demands a new kind of mobile experience. Forget complex joysticks and awkward tilt-controls: we are crafting completely novel interactions that leverage Skydio's onboard intelligence to empower a much broader, more diverse audience of drone users.

An ideal intern candidate is a junior, senior, or MS-level college student with practical project and/or industry experience developing mobile applications on Android.

How you'll make an impact:

  • Design, prototype, and refine advanced drone interfaces, and then polish a consistent mobile experience for release to the world.
  • Contribute to the development of user interfaces for the world's most advanced autonomous flying camera.
  • Combine your knowledge of Android ecosystems with our Drone Intelligence API to help create a new gold standard for what a drone app should be.
  • Improve user experiences by incorporating augmented reality, in-app content creation, and sharing capabilities.
  • Iterate on designs based on user feedback, internal testing, and your own experiences piloting Skydio drones.
What makes you a good fit:
  • You have a passion for meticulously crafted interfaces that strike the correct balance between ease-of-use, elegance, and power.
  • For Android, we use: Kotlin, Android Studio, Gradle, adb, Linux, and follow best practices for app development using Android Architecture Components and Jetpack Compose
  • Experience in C++ and OpenGL is a big plus.
  • Ability to create tools and automate your workflows using Python scripts
  • You appreciate the value of code-review and other collaborative development practices.
  • Bonus points: You've shipped code to the App Store or Google Play store and have experienced the joys (and frustrations) of getting feedback from real users.
  • Experience with IoT or embedded devices using Android NDK

Compensation Range: The annual base salary range for this position is $41/hr for Undergrad, $53/hr for Graduate students, and $58 for PhD students*. Compensation will vary based on factors, including skill level, proficiencies, transferable knowledge, and experience. In addition to base salary, Skydio full-time employees are eligible to enroll in our benefit plans and take advantage of a variety of incentives and stipends.

*For some positions the pay may be dependent upon the individual's regional location.
