Description
The Montgomery County Parks Department, Park Planning & Stewardship Division, is currently seeking applications for a Seasonal GIS Data Specialist at 2425 Reedie Dr 11th Floor, Wheaton, MD 20902. The GIS Seasonal will be part of the Long Range Planning section and will support the section in its efforts to understand existing conditions within parks in order to make recommendations about the future of parks. This position will work on GIS projects using ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online and have the opportunity to learn applications of GIS in park planning and management.

Limited Benefits for Seasonal Employees
Health Insurance Plans
You are eligible for specific health insurance benefits if you worked, on average, 30 hours per week during your first 12 months of employment or from October 3rd to October 2nd each subsequent period following your first 12 months of employment. This equates to 1,560 hours over a 12-month period.
If and when you are eligible for benefits, you will receive notification directly from the Health & Benefits Office.
Eligible Employees Pay 35% of the health insurance plan premium and The Commission Pays 65%.

Examples of Important Duties
- Assist with developing and updating GIS layers for specific data sets.
- Map facility locations using ArcGIS Pro and GIS web map applications.
- Maintain and organize data using Excel spread sheets.
- Assist with data maintenance and reviewing data for accuracy.
- Develop workflows for data validation.
- Work with interdisciplinary teams to validate data.
- Site visits and in-person meetings with staff to accomplish the above-mentioned tasks.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with ArcGIS Pro
- Proficiency in editing data in GIS
- Proven ability to excel in verbal and written communication, attention to detail, flexibility to multitask and maintain stability under pressure.
- Project management experience
- Demonstrated commitment to inclusion, diversity, equity, and access.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Proven experience using Esri technology (e.g., ArcGIS Pro) and MS Office Suite
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in a field of study related to Geography, Environmental Science, or Natural Resources and Sustainable Development
- An equivalent combination of education and experience • Provide own transportation to/from workplace.
Supplemental Information
Working Conditions
- Primarily works in an office setting with occasional outside exposure.
- Work involves frequent positioning of self to obtain maps, drawings, plans, remaining in a stationary position, moving about inside the office, and communicating with employees.
- Work may require some physical requirements.
- Ability to lift and carry boxes weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Use of multiple technical equipment and software applications may be required.
- This position is seasonal/intermittent and does not provide benefits.
- Salary based on experience.
- A criminal background investigation will be completed prior to hire.
