Industries Instructor - Manufacturing
Salary: £25,000- £27,000
The Role
We are seeking a dedicated and motivated Manufacturing Industries Instructor to lead, train, and manage a team of up to 35 prisoners in a large industrial workshop setting.
This role involves overseeing daily manufacturing operations, maintaining production quality, and fostering a rehabilitative work environment that supports skill development and positive growth.
As a Manufacturing Industries Instructor, you’ll play a vital role in helping prisoners gain employability skills that can aid their reintegration into society. You will work closely with other prison staff and Work & Skills Coaches to tailor training, promote teamwork, and support personal and professional growth in a structured, supportive setting.
Key Responsibilities
* Conduct health and safety inductions, train on machinery and tool use, and adapt training to individual learning needs.
* Develop daily work schedules, monitor production quality, and ensure that all targets and standards are met.
* Lead, motivate, and manage prisoners in the workshop, promoting discipline, productivity, and skill development with a focus on restorative practices.
* Conduct regular risk assessments, ensure the security of all tools and materials, and maintain a safe working environment aligned with prison regulations.
* Log attendance, monitor progress, and complete necessary reports on security, incidents, and personal development.
* Work with Work & Skills Coaches to help prisoners complete employability passports, embedding skills such as quality control and teamwork.
* Manage inventory and stock levels to meet production demands, participating in audits to ensure compliance with contractual requirements.
Requirements:
* Experience in a manufacturing or industrial operations role
* Strong communication, leadership, and organisational skills
* A commitment to maintaining safety and security standards
Desirable
* Relevant vocational qualification in manufacturing or industrial operations
* Teaching or training experience, ideally with a recognized qualification (PTLLS, AET, or similar)
