Job Summary
The Accountant at Huntsman Cancer Institute ( HCI ) is an integral team-member of the HCI Finance team. Reporting to the Director of Finance , this position will also serve as the primary departmental contact for tracking Evidence of Review completion, managing activity setup and close requests as requested by Finance team members . The Accountant will be cross-trained and serve as a backup for other HCI Finance team members for duties such as non-personnel cost transfers, wire transfer payments, occasional payment request submissions in the ePR system, and departmental Scholarship Admin Coordinator.
This position is not responsible for providing patient care.

Responsibilities
Essential Functions
Prepares and serves as point of contact for activity setup, close requests, and activity changes as requested by Finance liaisons.
Maintenance of Purchase Admin including additions, deactivations, designated shoppers and GFA .
Process non-personnel corrective journal entries for Finance team and assist with other accounting related questions.
Prepare Evidence of Review tracking report and work with each Responsible Person/Account Executive to ensure compliance with university policy.
Serve as primary backup to other Finance staff for a variety of financial processes including Overspent Report.
Recommends and supports improvements that improve the efficiency of accounting systems and departmental operations.
Problem Solving
This position requires the ability to apply generally accepted accounting principles, federal cost accounting regulations and University policies and procedures to a variety of situations. The incumbent must be able to interpret complex policies and effectively communicate the information in an easily understood manner. The incumbent is required to provide analysis of each situation and use professional judgement in reaching a solution. The Accountant is expected to recommend changes to accounting based procedures based upon analysis performed and specialized knowledge.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field, plus one year related experience or equivalency (two years of related work experience can be substituted for one year of education) required. A thorough understanding of general ledger accounting practices, cost analysis and accounting principles, as well as demonstrated analytical, problem solving, human relations and effective communication skills also required.
Knowledge of PeopleSoft or Access databases may be preferred in some areas.
