What began as a pair of blenders, a patio table, and a fridge has flourished into a 250-unit operator and franchisor of the leading fast casual restaurant concept. Playa Bowls added almost 60 locations in 2023 and are on target to add as many 75 new locations in 2024. WHO YOU ARE

The Director of Construction is a key member of the Development team, reporting directly to the Chief Development Officer. The role will manage the entire process of building new Playa Bowls stores, from initial planning to the final handover. This position will lead the coordination with franchise owners, architects, engineers, general contractors, and cross-functional internal teams to ensure timely, cost-effective store openings while maintaining brand standards. You will also support the execution of corporate-owned locations and oversee the renovation of existing stores.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
  • $140,000 - $180,000 base salary range + incentive bonus plan participation
  • Fully Remote - Must be able to travel up to 50% of the time.
  • Open to candidates that are based within our national footprint near a major airport including northeast, west coast, southeast, Midwest, southwest, mountain and southern plains.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Oversee the entire construction process for new store builds and remodels, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and brand standards
  • Serve as the main point of contact between franchisees, architects, engineers, contractors, and internal teams such as operations, design, and supply chain
  • Provide leadership during the planning and design phase, including guidance on site selection, layout, and material specifications
  • Select and manage contractors, negotiate contracts, and ensure compliance with safety regulations and building codes
  • Conduct site inspections to ensure construction quality and adherence to brand standards
  • Prepare and manage construction budgets to meet financial goals while controlling costs through proactive risk management
  • Oversee and lead a team of remote construction managers.
  • Support franchisees with their construction projects by helping them select qualified general contractors and negotiate build-out costs
  • Lead the research and potential integration of eco-friendly and sustainable construction practices, including the use of energy-efficient materials, green certifications, and waste reduction initiatives
  • Oversee the implementation of advanced construction technologies such as Building Information Modeling (BIM) to streamline project operations and improve accuracy
  • Ensure full compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, while developing and executing risk management strategies to mitigate legal and safety risks
  • Maintain clear communication with all stakeholders, including investors, franchise partners, and senior leadership, ensuring alignment on project goals, progress, and milestones
  • Develop and lead training sessions for franchisees to provide them with a deep understanding of the construction process, timelines, and cost management best practices
  • Provide post-construction support, managing future renovations, maintenance oversight, and resolving any structural or operational issues that may arise after project completion
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND BEHAVIORS
  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, Architecture, Engineering, or a related field
    Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in construction management, ideally within the QSR or retail industries
  • Experience with franchise-driven construction projects, managing multiple sites concurrently
  • Proficiency in project management software, such as FranConnect, Google Suite, and Microsoft Office
  • Strong understanding of construction regulations, building codes, and permitting processes including ADA compliance
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills to manage multiple projects simultaneously
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL FUNCTIONS
  • Must be able to traverse and inspect all areas of jobsite in all types of weather; this may include walking, climbing, reaching, bending, crawling, or stretching.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally
  • Must be able to engage in problem-solving skills to help identify and solve potential issues
  • Must be on call to address delays, emergencies, bad weather, and other issues at the jobsite.
