Product Engineer – Eastbourne
Our client, a leading advanced engineering company with a global reach, is seeking a Product Engineer to join their team in Eastbourne.
Summary of Role:
The Product Engineer will be responsible for understanding, incorporating, and managing client requirements into company-wide data systems, including Product Data Management (PDM), Bill of Materials (BoMs), and Drawing/Information Management. The role includes performing basic modeling and assembly activities in CAD software to ensure the correct design and selection of pumps. Additionally, the Product Engineer will support the instrumentation specialist with order handling for motors and instrumentation in projects.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
Generate and configure BoMs for new orders, highlight risks, understand gaps, and manage activities to ensure new products are engineered correctly.
Support the business with engineering-related issues, assisting Supply Chain to ensure engineering-defined information can be sourced and manufactured. Aid Customer Service with root cause analysis of product issues and support internal Sales with technical knowledge and guidance.
Ensure targets are on track, report issues, and use initiative and innovation to problem-solve and support business growth.
Carry out business development and continuous improvement activities, identifying root causes and implementing preventive solutions.
Manage expectations of both internal and external customers.
Perform basic 3D modeling and assembly in Siemens NX, and perform package checks to ensure correct pump selection.
Order handling for instrumentation and motors – Specify motors and instrumentation for projects where applicable. Support and manage the creation, review, and revision of instrumentation and motor documentation. Personal Skills and Abilities
Essential:
Qualified mechanical engineer (HNC or degree level) with a minimum of 1 year of experience in a mechanical engineering role.
Proven analytical experience and evidence of creating robust engineering solutions.
Strong interpersonal skills with good communication.
Spatial awareness to understand engineering drawings, visualize opportunities, and problem-solve.
Ability to be an integral part of a team.
2D and 3D CAD experience, preferably with Siemens NX.
Electrical experience with motors and instrumentation. Desirable:
ERP/MRP experience.
Experience with JD Edwards.
Experience with TeamCenter and NX.
Operational understanding.
Some knowledge of fluid handling would be useful.
Understanding of Design Control.
A solid engineering background with hands-on experience of rotating mechanical equipment.
Experience in a mechanical engineering design environment. Level of Authority
A suitable candidate will report to the Line Manager but is expected to develop a degree of autonomy within a short period and be able to influence decisions made across the business.
Direct support and contribution to engineering contracts valued at hundreds of thousands of pounds.
Making product and design decisions and recommendations for change, based on sound engineering principles.
Be accountable for the work produced. Salary:
Negotiable depending on experience
Working Hours: 39-hour week with flexible start/finish times.
