Job Description
We are a multi-disciplined contractor with a service portfolio that covers track, trades, civils, OLE, signalling and telecoms along with trackside lighting and safety barrier fencing.
In this respect we are a forward-thinking business that has the ability to undertake large scale contract works delivering a variety of services such as structures, track drainage, earthworks and lineside infrastructure works under one umbrella.
We have established a network of offices across the whole of the UK where we pro-actively recruit from within the local community to fully support our clients on a National Basis.
One of our large rail clients is looking for a Civils Project Engineer to work a Multi Billion Pound Project in Manchester
To assist the Project / Construction Manager by providing technical leadership for allocated contract, and guidance / mentorship to less experienced engineers on their projects. Find engineering solutions ensure conformance to the specification and compliant delivery to programme by guiding engineering suppliers to the job and advising the Project / Construction Manager.
Create and implement a mentoring / development plan for engineers and apprentices assigned for mentorship / development.
Manage the engineering activity on the allocated projects including support for design reviews; communication and consultation with other functions (design, install and test) over changes; and interfaces with other disciplines (including facilitating inter-disciplinary check meetings).
Advise the Construction / Project Manager on engineering requirement and specification issues, including marking out of sites and ensuring each stage of construction is acceptable and signed off before works progress
Carry out and record briefings of technical updates to the project team, including sub-contractors, promote best practice and pro-actively identify to resource owners additional training requirements and development opportunities.
Assist the Construction / Project Manager in developing the plan for engineering resource required to deliver the project plan, provide engineering review of the WPP’s / TB’s and risk assessments proposed for the work.
Carry out and record briefings of technical updates to the engineering staff and advise renewals managers of likely changes required for current schemes. Set the standard for working practices and actively promote self-development of engineers.
Produce and implement an in process inspection and surveillance regime consistent with company standards and project requirements.
Provide necessary site support to the project team (Project Manager, Construction Manager, Site Supervisors, Resource Providers and Sub-Contractors) throughout the works to ensure that critical engineering decisions can be made in a timely manner and that issues arising can be dealt with to ensure compliance with a minimum of re-work.
Responsible for ensuring WPPs / TBs for all allocated works are produced and in place, and that the content is to a high standard. Carry out regular checks and audits.
Mentorship of other engineers may be across project boundaries.
Direct responsibility for the engineering element of the allocated project(s) and hence the technical guidance of all staff working on the same.
Providing input to bids and guidance for other projects likely to fall within the SPEs remit if awarded.
Line and people manager duties as required. Carry out annual performance reviews (PDRs) for direct reports, administering poor performance, attendance management and disciplinary procedures as applicable
Undertake regular PDR 1-2-1 conversations and manage staff development of direct reports
The role is one based in an office / site environment. It is a requirement of the role to attend site on a when required (including weekends and / or night shifts) to deliver allocated works within the track contract
