A campus-based university is experiencing an increased workload and has need a temporary Joiner / Handyperson
To complete both planned and reactive building maintenance tasks throughout the University Estate, ensuring that general wear and tear activities are managed effectively, and that statutory regulations are adhered to. This role will be varied, and so they are looking for a carpenter/joiner who is multi-skilled and willing to carry out a variety of multi-skilled maintenance tasks.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities• To complete planned and reactive maintenance tasks generated by the Facilities Helpdesk, scheduling tasks to meet priority deadlines and liaising with the appropriate teams to ensure minimal disruption is caused to building users.• To ensure that all information relating to Facilities Helpdesk jobs is accurately recorded, that jobs are efficiently managed through the system, and additional jobs are identified as required.• To complete weekly/monthly Statutory Compliance checks including but not limited to Fire Alarm Testing, Emergency Light Testing, Fire door inspections and Water Temperature Testing• To carry out periodic building and general site checks to identify and record defects, and in liaison with the Building Services Supervisor, establish a programme for rectification.• Use technical knowledge, ability, training, and experience to fault find and solve problems associated with the operation of the building or site. Liaise with external contractors when required.
• The post holder will ensure that at all times their work is to the highest quality and that all work is undertaken in accordance with Statutory Regulations and current Health & Safety Legislation. This will include completion and recording of Risk Assessments and Method Statements and the regular update of knowledge in line with changing regulations.• Assist with other related tasks as required, e.g. snow clearance/gritting, relamping.• Working to standard operating procedures.
Person SpecificationHave a full UK driving licence Qualification in maintenance work to NVQ level 2 (Equivalent) or time served experience Carpentry NVQ level 4 (or equivalent) must have fire door inspection and installation certificates Able to work accurately and safely Demonstrate practical aptitude for semi-skilled maintenance and repair Have sound knowledge of products and materials currently in use – Smartphone/tablet literate –
