Job Description

HAYS are delighted to be working with one of our clients headquartered in the West Midlands to recruit for a Category Lead on a permanent basis. This role will sit within the IT and Data category and will support the Category Lead in procuring products and services across the digital, data and technology categories. This role will give the incumbent candidate the opportunity to manage the full procurement lifecycle across areas such as hardware, software, networking and infrastructure, as well as support and coach team members who are responsible for any below threshold tender processes.


This permanent vacancy comes with a salary of between £45,000-50,000 per annum (dependent on skills and experience), a hybrid working pattern and a generous benefits package.


The key responsibilities of this role are:

  • Delivery of digital, data and technology procurements in accordance with the sourcing pipeline and procurement strategy.
  • Support the Category Lead to manage and deliver the digital, data and technology procurement pipeline.
  • Provide coaching for colleagues and team members.
  • Responsible for the development of tender documentation, including pre-qualification of suppliers. Presenting tender opportunities to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide relevant input into activity and progress reports for digital, data and technology procurement.
  • Engaging with internal and external stakeholders to determine their requirements.
  • Assist with reviews of policies and procedures, programmes of work and procurement health checks.
  • Drive the delivery of savings against the digital, data and technology budget and in accordance with the relevant savings process and target.


In order to be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Demonstrable IT category and commercial knowledge and experience, with a proven record of accomplishment in delivering IT procurement.
  • Significant communication, influencing and negotiation skills, with a proven ability to build credibility with relevant stakeholders.
  • The ability to use procurement data to identify themes and trends, advise on routes to market and improve service delivery.
  • Proven experience of working to deadlines and prioritising workloads.
  • CIPS or MCIPS qualifications are desirable but not required.
