Mechanical Fitter / Test Technician

5S Recruitment is proud to partner with an industry leader in it's field of precision manufacturing and reliability. As they continue to expand, they are looking to add a dedicated Mechanical Fitter / Test Technician to their skilled team in Rotherham.
The Opportunity
Working at a cutting-edge facility, this role is not just about fitting and testing it's about being part of a team committed to delivering the highest standards of product quality globally. You’ll be involved in both hands-on assembly and technical testing, ensuring that all mechanical seals meet the demanding specifications set forth. This position offers a blend of responsibility and growth, with opportunities to be at the forefront of mechanical testing and reporting.
Key Responsibilities
* Test Equipment Set-Up: Support the setup, build, and dismantling of mechanical seals, carrying out preventative maintenance of rigs and ensuring procedures are followed accurately.
* Seal Preparation: Handle all aspects of seal preparation, including lapping, shot blasting, laser etching, cleaning, fitting, and measuring. Attention to detail in documentation is critical.
* Data Collection & Reporting: Gather and analyse data, communicating findings in comprehensive test reports to the responsible engineer. Your insights will directly impact the product's quality.
* Seal Condition Reporting: Inspect and compile accurate condition reports for returned seals, supporting the team in maintaining high standards.
* Communication & Calibration: Interact with both internal and external stakeholders, including suppliers and customers, to ensure seamless operations. Maintain calibration records for key instruments.
* Team Collaboration: Work as part of a highly skilled Test House team while also showing initiative and independence when required.
* Safety & Flexibility: Adhere to all health and safety standards, ensuring tests are conducted safely and efficiently.
What We’re Looking For
This role requires a skilled mechanical engineer with a keen eye for detail and a passion for excellence. Ideally, you have experience working with rotating equipment or within a workshop environment, and you’re motivated to keep pushing standards forward.
Essential Skills & Qualifications
* HNC level or equivalent in a relevant engineering field.
Technical Skills:
* Strong practical skills with experience in rotating equipment.
* Ability to interpret engineering drawings.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel.
* Experience in data collection and report writing.
* Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate technical information clearly and concisely.
* Workshop Experience: Previous experience in a workshop environment, with knowledge of pumps, compressors, and calibration processes.
Desirable Skills
* Experience with mechanical seals, especially wet and dry types.
* Knowledge of calibration, instrumentation, and precision engineering practices.
* Familiarity with industry standards for safety and continuous improvement.
