Job Description
Are you passionate about food and looking for a role where you can make a difference in children’s lives? Join JT Recruit as a School Meal Assistant, supporting schools across Derbyshire. This is your chance to work in a rewarding and community-focused environment, helping to provide nutritious meals that fuel learning and growth.
There are many opportunities available for School Meal Assistant, most posts are temporary initially until January 2025, possibility of extensions may be available. Hours are generally 20 hrs per week Monday – Friday 10.00-14.30, although there are full time posts available.

DE7 – Ilkeston SK22 - Buxton
What You will Do:
* Prepare & Serve: Help with basic food preparation, simple cooking, and serving meals while ensuring correct portion sizes.
* Create a Welcoming Space: Set up and dismantle dining furniture to make mealtimes enjoyable.
* Maintain Cleanliness: Ensure the kitchen, dining areas, and equipment are cleaned to high standards.
* Follow Safety Standards: Comply with food hygiene and health and safety regulations at all times.
* Support the Team: Work collaboratively to keep the catering service running smoothly.
What We are Looking For:
Teamwork skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
Awareness of safe working practices.
Ideally have experience in a production kitchen or food service role.
Skills & Knowledge
Essential:
Understanding of food hygiene, storage, and service principles.
Knowledge of portion control and waste management.
Practical skills to work effectively in a catering unit.
If you have effective communication skills and a flexible and proactive approach to work, this is just the role for you.
You will need to demonstrate that you hold a Basic Food Hygiene qualification or NVQ Level 1 and have a current DBS Check.
