Leadership for exceptional learning: Guide, safeguard, and elevate the student experience
About the role
Role type: Fixed term, Full time and Residential
Dates: For course dates between end of June and end of August 2025
Working pattern: Saturday to Saturday, up to 70 hours per week on a shift pattern with overnight duties. 1 day off per week.
Reports to: Operations Manager
As the most senior manager on-site, you will inspire and lead the team in delivering an exceptional student experience. You will act as the key decision-maker on site and in emergency situations, ensuring student and staff welfare is maintained to high standards at all times. You will liaise with Head Office and key stakeholders managing the overall operations of a site.
Main duties

Leadership - Leading the team to successfully deliver an exceptional student experience, including the development of junior staff members.

Decision making - Acting as the senior decision maker of the site, ensuring effective leadership and problem solving in all areas of operation.

Atmosphere - Fostering a positive work environment on site that encourages teamwork, motivation and collaboration.

Stakeholders - Maintaining clear, professional and timely communication with key contacts.

Head Office Liaison - Maintaining regular communication to ensure smooth delivery.

Budget management - Managing course delivery costs within budget to best add value to student experience, and keep accurate records of spending.

Staff rota - Managing a staff rota in compliance with UK employment laws, ensuring efficient use of resources and managing requested overtime.

Welfare - Taking overall responsibility for the safety and wellbeing of students and staff on site, working closely with the Welfare and Safeguarding Officer.

Residential duties - Up to 10 hrs per week, as part of the residential team including morning registrations, meal time supervision, curfew checks and overnight phone duty.
- Safeguarding - Appropriately responding to any safeguarding concerns that may arise.

You're comfortable managing the operational and pastoral demands of a residential course, confidently addressing challenges and maintaining high standards of care.
Essential
-
Extensive experience in a leadership or management role ideally in education including the management of a team of staff, students and stakeholder relationships.

Clear knowledge and understanding of safeguarding, health and safety, and emergency procedures.

Proven ability to problem solve and provide thoughtful solutions that consider staff wellbeing and student experience.

Excellent interpersonal skills and experience managing staff performance.

Proven ability to use IT effectively including the use of computers, smartphones and the internet for tasks such as email communication, group chats, managing files, and troubleshooting basic technical issues.

Desirable

Knowledge of Google Workspace (Gmail, Google Drive, Google Sheets).

Experience working in a teaching or management capacity in a summer school.

Familiarity with managing inexperienced team members, particularly in residential environments like summer schools.
