Job Description
Position: Building and Grounds TechnicianMonday through Friday from 2:00 PM – 10:00 PMDepartment: Public FacilitiesSalary: $57,211.32 - $60,695.49
Duties & Responsibilities:
The Building and Grounds Technician is responsible for all aspects of building upkeep and maintenance at various City buildings. The City is looking for someone who will take pride in keeping the facilities in top condition. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, able to work with little supervision, possess a strong attention to detail and possess strong general handyman skills.
• Performs and ensures routine manual labor associated with cleaning, building maintenance, maintenance of grounds including but not limited to, washing, waxing, stripping, and refinishing floors. Cleaning windows, doors, furniture, desks, walls and fixtures and repairs and troubleshoots for multiple buildings during the shift.• Ensures the cleanliness and stocking of bathrooms and kitchens throughout the buildings.• Painting as assigned.• Operates and maintains various types of equipment such as lawn mowers, weed whackers, snow blowers, trimmers, and shears.• Inspects interior and exterior of City buildings daily and advises on the need for repairs and maintenance.• Aids in the operation and maintenance of building systems such as boilers, HVAC units, plumbing and electrical.• Demonstrates a working knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.• Must be available during snowstorms for snow removal. Shovels, snow blows and sands current walkways, steps and driveways around the building.• Ensures spaces are prepared for the next day by taking out trash, tidying furniture and dusting surfaces.• Performs other duties as assigned by Director or Assistant Director.
Qualifications and Essential Skills:
A high school diploma or GED and one (1) year of building maintenance experience or any equivalent combination of training and experience is required. A valid driver’s license is also required. The individual must be punctual and have outstanding attendance practices.
• General knowledge of trades related to building maintenance and repair.• Knowledge of a variety of building maintenance procedures and techniques.• Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.• Skill in following safety practices and recognizing hazards.• Skill in using hand and light power tools.• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City of Malden staff along with the ability to communicate effectively.• Performs work requiring climbing ladders, scaffolding and extended aerial platforms.• Involves moderate to heavy work in all types of weather.• Must be able to work flexible hours including nights and weekends as circumstances dictate. In addition, should be available to respond to emergencies on a 24 hour basis as needed.• Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds with or without accommodation.
