Who You Are

You are a qualified Weights and Measures Inspector with a diploma or equivalent, possessing recent experience (within the last 2-3 years) in conducting inspections in both retail and non-retail settings. Your expertise lies in legal metrology, and you are adept at investigating complaints and responding to service requests from businesses across five London boroughs. You are knowledgeable about relevant legislation and capable of giving legal advice and promoting legal compliance. You demonstrate a flexible approach and a commitment to health and safety regulations, equality of opportunity, and the efficient execution of your duties. Your role may involve supervisory responsibilities and occasionally working outside normal hours, including weekends.

What the Job Involves

The role entails the enforcement of Trading Standards legislation within the North East London Metrology Partnership, particularly focusing on weights and measures if DTS or MCATS qualified. You will manage and perform Weights and Measures inspections for the five boroughs—Havering, Newham, Barking and Dagenham, Waltham Forest, and Redbridge—and other parts of London. You will lead in legal metrology, addressing service requests and reviewing laboratory calibrations. Additional responsibilities include preparing detailed reports, advising businesses and consumers, organising trade seminars, and liaising with various council services, government departments, and organizations. Furthermore, you'll handle the maintenance of office databases, assist in the training of staff, supervise technicians, and ensure complaints are effectively resolved. Your role may involve dealing with financial resources and equipment maintenance, as well as supporting peer audits and addressing non-conformities in quality policies.
