Location: Brighton

Hours: 08:30 – 15:30

Contract Type: Temporary

Supply Desk are a nationwide education recruitment company specialising in Primary, SEND, and Secondary education. We place our teaching staff in day-to-day and long-term placements in an extensive number of Primary and Secondary schools across Brighton & Hove, East Sussex and West Sussex.

We are seeking a dedicated and motivated SENCO Assistant to join our inclusive school in Brighton. This temporary role offers an exciting opportunity to support the SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) in delivering high-quality support for students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). The successful candidate will be an integral part of the SEN team, helping to create a supportive learning environment that enables all students to reach their potential.

Key Responsibilities:

Support the SENCO in the management and delivery of SEND provision across the school.
Assist in the assessment and identification of students with special educational needs, working closely with teachers and other staff.
Help implement and monitor Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and other support strategies for students with SEND.
Provide 1:1 and small group support to students with a variety of additional needs, both in class and in withdrawal sessions.
Assist in the delivery of interventions aimed at improving students’ academic and social development.
Maintain accurate records of support and interventions provided to students with SEND.
Collaborate with teaching staff to ensure differentiated teaching methods are in place to meet the needs of all students.
Assist with the preparation of reports and reviews for students with SEND.
Support the SENCO in ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and school policies related to SEND.
Build positive relationships with parents/carers, providing feedback on students' progress and supporting them in understanding SEND provisions.
Promote an inclusive school ethos where all students feel valued and supported.
Essential Qualifications & Skills:

Experience working with students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) in an educational setting.
A strong understanding of the SEN Code of Practice and relevant SEND legislation.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, teachers, parents, and external professionals.
Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and independently when necessary.
Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
Empathy and patience, with the ability to manage challenging behaviours and create a supportive learning environment.
A relevant qualification in education, childcare, or special educational needs is desirable but not essential.
DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check required.
