Position Title: SEMH Learning Support Assistant

Location: Solihull
Daily Rate: Up to £110 per day (this includes travel per day)
Contract Type: Temp to Perm
Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) Learning Support Assistant to join a dynamic team of two within our clients establishment. This role focuses on providing tailored support to students with SEMH needs, fostering an inclusive learning environment that encourages personal development, emotional well-being, and academic progress. Working closely within a small team, you will collaborate to design and deliver individualised support strategies that address each student's unique challenges and strengths.
Key Responsibilities:
Student Support:
Assist in implementing behavior support plans, Individual Education Plans (IEPs), and emotional regulation strategies.
Use de-escalation techniques to manage challenging behavior effectively, promoting a calm and safe learning environment.
Facilitate activities that build confidence, resilience, and social skills among students.
Collaborative Teamwork:
Work closely with your fellow team member and other staff, including teachers, SENCOs (Special Educational Needs Coordinators), and external professionals, to ensure cohesive support for students.
Share insights, progress updates, and observations to refine strategies and approaches.
Contribute to team meetings, training sessions, and planning discussions to develop and align support initiatives.
Planning and Preparation:
Assist in preparing resources and lesson materials tailored to the needs of students with SEMH challenges.
Collaborate in creating and adapting strategies to support emotional regulation, learning engagement, and positive behaviors.
Support the development of action plans for individual students, based on ongoing assessments and observations.
Record Keeping and Communication:
Maintain accurate and detailed records of student progress, incidents, and interventions.
Provide regular feedback to teaching staff, SENCOs, and parents/carers as required.
Uphold confidentiality and data protection standards when handling sensitive information

Empathy and Patience: A genuine understanding of and commitment to the emotional and educational needs of students with SEMH challenges.
Resilience and Calmness: Ability to remain composed in high-pressure or challenging situations.

Essential Qualifications and Experience:
Previous experience in a similar role supporting students with SEMH needs (desirable but not essential if relevant transferable skills can be demonstrated).
Understanding of safeguarding policies and procedures.
Relevant qualifications in education, child development, or a related field (e.g., CACHE Level 3, Teaching Assistant qualifications).
Training in de-escalation techniques or behavior management (e.g., Team Teach, MAPA) is an advantage.
Working Environment:
Working as part of a small, supportive team within a school or specialist educational setting.
