Job Description
Job Title: Pre-Construction Surveyor
Location: Bristol
Contract Type: Permanent, Full-time, Monday-Friday
Ventro, Firntec and LivGreen are an exciting group of companies focused on fire-safety services and net zero retrofit. As a Pre-Construction Surveyor, you will be responsible for carrying out detailed inspections and surveys related to fire compartmentation and passive fire protection.
Key Responsibilities:
Door Inspections: Conduct regular planned door inspections, with some clients requiring FDIS (Fire Door Inspection Scheme) certification.
Door Surveys: Perform one-off surveys to assess the condition of doors and ensure compliance with fire safety standards.
Compartment Surveys: Carry out detailed surveys to identify and document compartmentation line errors within buildings.
Survey Oversight: Oversee and manage surveys for remedial works, which include:
Understanding the compartmentation lines of a drawing
Identifying applicable fire ratings in the absence of drawings.
Understanding what fire ratings should apply in the absence of drawings
Conducting destructive surveys to identify faults, with a thorough understanding of what to look for.
Creating detailed lists of observations to highlight issues.
Noting environmental challenges that may impact survey outcomes.
Developing comprehensive solutions for issues found, including:
Proposing detailed remedial actions that contribute to a Statement of Work (SOW).
Specifying required materials and quantities.
Estimating the time required to complete each task.
Survey Quotation Review: Review and validate quotations produced from survey findings, ensuring no areas of the building are omitted and that assumptions are clearly made for any inaccessible areas.
The successful candidate will:
Possess excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate technical discussions with clients.
Be prepared for travel and occasional overnight stays.
Be proficient in using IT, including tablet-based software, to conduct surveys and record findings.
Demonstrate a keen attention to detail and a thorough understanding of firestopping practices.
Have a strong commercial mindset, with an understanding of valuation processes and the ability to assist the sales consultant during client meetings to explain survey results and the importance of addressing identified issues.
Have a solid understanding of building compartmentation lines and fire safety regulations.
Exhibit a proactive attitude in seeking solutions, including researching relevant guidance (e.g., referring to Approved Document B for fire safety compliance).
Be committed to continuous professional development and willing to pursue additional qualifications as needed.
Act as an ambassador for Ventro, representing the company with professionalism in all customer-facing interactions.
Be comfortable with lone working conditions, as the role requires a high degree of autonomy.
