Job Description
An Assistant Maintenance Manager at a 5-star game lodge in the Kruger National Park (KNP) plays a crucial role in ensuring the seamless operation and upkeep of the lodge's facilities and infrastructure. This position demands a blend of technical expertise, managerial skills, and a commitment to maintaining the high standards expected in a luxury safari environment. Job Description: Maintenance Oversight: Assist the Maintenance Manager in planning and executing maintenance schedules for all lodge facilities, including guest rooms, public areas, kitchens, and staff accommodations. Conduct regular inspections to identify and address potential issues, ensuring all areas meet the lodge's quality standards. Team Supervision: Supervise and support the maintenance team, providing guidance and training as needed. Coordinate daily tasks and ensure timely completion of maintenance requests. Technical Responsibilities: Oversee the maintenance and repair of essential systems, including plumbing, electrical, air conditioning, refrigeration, water reticulation, boreholes, and sewage systems. Ensure all equipment and machinery are in optimal working condition, scheduling repairs or replacements as necessary. Safety and Compliance: Implement and adhere to safety protocols, ensuring compliance with relevant health and safety regulations. Maintain records of maintenance activities, inspections, and safety checks. Resource Management: Manage inventory of maintenance supplies and equipment, placing orders as needed while adhering to budget constraints. Monitor energy consumption and implement measures to enhance efficiency. Education and Experience: Matric (Grade 12) certificate. Formal education or certifications in areas such as air conditioning, plumbing, carpentry, construction, or electrical systems. At least 2 years of experience in a managerial or assistant role within a hospitality or private game lodge environment. Extensive operational knowledge in maintenance fields, particularly water reticulation, boreholes, sewage systems, refrigeration, and electrical reticulation. Skills and Competencies: Strong leadership and team management abilities. Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Proficiency in using maintenance tools and equipment. Good communication skills, both verbal and written. Basic computer literacy, including familiarity with MS Office applications. Additional Requirements: Valid driver's license, preferably with a Professional Driving Permit (PrDP). Knowledge of NOSA safety standards and protocols. Experience with gas installations, including geysers, stoves, and multi-braais.
