Job Description
Red Snapper Recruitment are recruiting for a Male Specialist Abuse Advocate based in Sandwell and Birmingham. The successful candidate will have a good understanding of interpersonal violence and abuse, its impact on men and experience of case management. This role requires an individual with compassion, empathy and excellent interpersonal skills. The candidate will work alongside court partners to help ensure client's and children's voices are heard through the proceedings and safety prioritised. They will work alongside the established and experienced Ask Marc advocates who will meet the needs and manage risk and longer term support needs of male victims This is a full-time, 37.5 hours (9am- 5pm Mon - Fri) permanent role and offering a salary of £24,310 - £27,751 pro rata. Full driving license and access to own vehicle is required for this position. Main Duties and Responsibilities To recognise men and children's individual needs, providing a support service to meet those needs, advocating on their behalf where appropriate To support the empowerment of the client and facilitate their understanding of the dynamics of domestic violence Advocate for and work with clients to help them access services to keep them and their children safe Identify and assess the risks and needs of male clients using an evidence-based risk identification checklist To work alongside partner agencies involved in the family court process, ensuring the woman's voice is heard and represented To carry out and regularly review risk assessments using evidence-based tools and complete safety planning with clients keeping them informed about developments in legal proceedings. Recognise, respect and address the needs of clients who face particular barriers when seeking help to access the advocacy service Support clients though criminal and civil court hearings, ensuring they are kept informed of the court process. Prepare reports to feed into MARAC and other operational safeguarding forums. Attendance to present cases at MARAC may be required on an ad hoc basis Record case work accurately and ensure that case notes are relevant and regularly updated. Ensure that any issues in relation to safeguarding children or vulnerable adults are brought to the immediate attention of the designated safeguarding lead. To identify and build up links with CAFCASS and other referral partners.Person Specification Educated to minimum Level 3 or equivalent, with a good level of experience in Health and social care IDVA/ISVA qualification and/or direct experience of working in domestic/sexual violence Commitment to providing services within an anti-discriminatory/equal opportunities framework Experience of working with adults, acknowledging safeguarding concerns Experience of working with and supporting vulnerable people Experience of handling a caseload Experience of working with clients with complex needs, such as mental health and substance misuse and working in a setting with vulnerable people, providing support in a needs led service Knowledge of family court proceedings including issues arising for Victims and children subjected to domestic abuse Experience of preparing accurate reports for formal settings such as, MARAC, court, case conferences Role is subject to DBS check at the relevant level.
