Position Title:Director of Finance, Fowler School of Law Position Type:Regular Job Number:SA44124 Full or Part Time:full-time 40 hours weekly Fair Labor Standard Act Classification:Exempt Anticipated Pay Range:$95,000 - $125,000 Pay Range Information:Chapman University is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this position. This range takes into account a variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. Salary offers are determined based on the final candidate’s qualifications and experience, as well as internal equity and other internal factors. The anticipated pay range is not a promise of a particular wage. Job Description Summary:The Director of Finance for the Fowler School of Law supports the Senior Assistant Dean, Facilities and Operations, by overseeing financial operations and ensuring alignment with law school and university policies. Responsibilities include developing and managing budgets, budget planning for facilities enhancements, overseeing financial performance and compliance, and coordinating with university departments like Financial Services. Responsibilities: Collaborate with the Senior Assistant Dean, Facilities and Operations, to establish budget and financial policies and procedures for the law school. Offer consultation and support on budget management, enhancement requests, allocation of funds, and strategic objectives. Participate in developing, preparing, and executing budgets, including annual budget plans and end-of-year balance notifications. Provide oversight of fiscal close processes to ensure the law school meets university deadlines. Regularly review law school financial processes and expenditures to enhance efficiency and streamline operations. Advise supervisor of, and assist in resolving, budget variances and other financial discrepancies. Manage daily Accounts Payable and Purchasing approvals to ensure compliance with University fiscal policy, budget availability, and funding agency guidelines. Oversee purchase orders and Concur expense reports up to established thresholds, supplies orders, and purchase card reconciliations. Liaise with accounting and purchasing departments to resolve issues. Manage and oversee processing of employee and student travel payments, research allowances, gifts, stipends, and extra pay requests; provide supervision for Finance and Operations Assistant. Provide oversight for grant and clinic accounts, including required reporting. Assist, as required, with the development of program budgets and determination of in-kind contributions. Communicate with faculty and staff regarding financial policies and procedures, deadlines, and budget management; provide training, as needed. Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in business, finance, accounting, or a related field. Minimum 5 years of experience in financial administration. Demonstrated knowledge of accounting principles, including significant experience with monitoring charges and reconciling expenses; strong arithmetic skills and attention to detail. Demonstrated ability to implement and maintain financial controls and processes to enhance efficiency and ensure regulatory compliance. Experience with database and spreadsheet applications (preferably Microsoft Office suite), PeopleSoft Finance Software, and Concur. Strong organizational skills to prioritize multiple requests and demands and complete them in a timely and accurate manner. Strong technical skills to learn and use University enterprise software systems. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to work with diverse constituencies and respond to financial and other questions in a clear, concise manner. Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality, comply with FERPA regulations and other rules and policies, and demonstrate good judgement. Desired Qualifications: Master’s Degree in relevant field or other advanced training/certifications in financial administration. Working knowledge of higher education or non-profit environment, policies, and procedures.
