Job Description
We Want You: BET Software is looking for an Intermediate Branch Network Engineer to join our dynamic Durban team. In this role, youll support and manage the national retail branch network and temporary event sites, ensuring seamless WAN and LAN operations. With strong MikroTik expertise, you'll troubleshoot issues, optimise network infrastructure, and uphold security standards. Your knowledge of network architecture, Linux systems, and terminal support will be key, along with mentoring junior engineers and contributing to projects. Certification in MTCNA, MTCRE, or higher (MTCINE preferred)(advantageous). At least 4 years experience in IT tech support networking and field application experience or a related role. Practical experience with Juniper, Cisco routers, switches, firewalls, and FortiGate networking equipment (advantageous). Understanding of network switching, routing, VPNs, voice technologies and vulnerability assessments. Knowledge of Fortinet firewalls, network support, troubleshooting, deployment and escalation matrix. What Youll Do: Support and manage the branch network. Support and manage the NMS systems to manage network performance and trend analysis. Perform schedule updates, network upgrades, security configurations, and installing patches or service packs. Communicate with third-party support services and connectivity service providers. Participate in the management of logged client support tickets and manage escalations as needed. Escalate, track and report on issues logged to 3rd party vendors. Develop and maintain technical documentation and SOPs including (Branch and Hollywoodbets buildings network diagrams, installation and configuration procedures, troubleshooting guidelines, and operational procedures). Coordinate with IT Helpdesk, Field support and Infrastructure staff to plan new network installations or upgrades of existing networks. Proactively help to track various performance metrics like traffic, bandwidth utilisation, availability, packet loss and much more. Take into consideration and create disaster recovery strategies. Plan, design and implement new networking solutions that will benefit our organisation. Analyse network performance to identify areas of improvement. Provide second level connectivity support assistance and assist the junior network engineering support staff to diagnose and resolve network related issues. Manage multiple projects with rapidly changing priorities. Work closely with the IT infrastructure team to support and manage the network. Participate in incident management and root cause analysis discussions. Administration Document all processes performed. Prepare and distribute post-mortem reports and perform trend analysis when there are system failures. Day-to-day admin and monitoring of network use. Administer and ensure project completion. Assist and provide consultancy services to our clients. Provide primary backup for networks should they fail. Teamwork Constructively participate as a member of the wider IT Department. Undertake any other tasks or once-off projects which may be assigned from time-to-time. Demonstrate professional skills and a high standard of integrity. Share important metrics with the team Key skills/attributes/position specific competencies: The following indicates what would typically be expected for this role at a competent level: Strong knowledge of MikroTik RouterOS, WinBox, CLI, and The Dude. Understanding of network protocols (TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, NAT, QoS, SNMP). Routing and switching experience configuring static routing, dynamic routing (BGP, OSPF, RIP), and VLANs. Set up PPPoE, VLANs, VPNs (IPSec, L2TP, OpenVPN), and routing protocols (BGP, OSPF). Experience in ISP environments or network operations is a plus. Ability to troubleshoot wireless, fiber, and LTE networks. Excellent communication and customer support skills. Experience with Linux-based systems for network monitoring. Familiarity with Radius servers, authentication protocols, and hotspot configurations. Knowledge of cloud-based networking and virtualisation. Ability to analyse the effectiveness of networks and solve network irregularities. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Thorough problem-solving skills. Professional and punctual approach. High level of integrity and confidentiality. This position may require lifting of boxes and hardware (Some heavy and delicate). After hours availability for critical support when required. This is a 24 x 7 x 365 operating environment.
