Data Modeler - Azure Data Engineering

Job Description : As a Data Modeler specializing in the Azure data engineering ecosystem, you will be instrumental in shaping our data landscape. You will leverage your deep understanding of data modeling principles, database design best practices, and hands-on experience with Azure data services to create efficient, scalable, and maintainable data models. Your ability to translate complex business requirements into clear and effective data models, while adhering to data governance standards, will be crucial to enabling data-driven insights and informed decision-making across the organization. Key Responsibilities : - Design and develop conceptual, logical, and physical data models (relational and dimensional) based on intricate business requirements and data flows. - Utilize industry-standard modeling techniques and tools (specifically Power Designer and Biz Designer). - Create data models that effectively support various data consumption patterns, including analytical reporting, business intelligence, and data science initiatives. - Demonstrate hands-on experience and a deep understanding of data modeling within the Azure data engineering stack, including: - Designing data models that facilitate efficient ETL/ELT processes. - Creating data models optimized for Spark-based processing and analytics. - Implementing data models that accurately track historical changes. - Designing data models that integrate seamlessly with the Unity Catalog for data governance and discovery. - Understanding how data models translate to efficient PySpark data transformations. - Collaborate closely with business analysts to thoroughly understand business needs and translate them into robust data model specifications. - Partner effectively with data engineers to ensure the physical implementation of data models aligns with the logical design and performance requirements. - Work alongside data architects to ensure data models are consistent with the overall enterprise data architecture and standards. - Engage with business stakeholders to validate data models and ensure they meet their analytical and reporting needs. - Optimize database design (schemas, tables, relationships, indexes) to enhance data retrieval performance, scalability, and long-term maintainability within the Azure data platform. - Define and enforce data governance standards related to data modeling, including naming conventions, data type definitions, relationships, constraints, and metadata management. - Establish and maintain data lineage documentation to track the origin and flow of data across systems. - Work collaboratively with ETL and BI teams to ensure seamless data integration from source systems into the data warehouse/data lake and effective data consumption for reporting and analytics. - Provide guidance on data transformations and mappings required for data integration processes. - Analyze and document complex data relationships, dependencies, and transformations across various source systems and target platforms within the Azure ecosystem. - Maintain comprehensive data dictionaries and metadata repositories, ensuring accuracy and accessibility. - Ensure data models comply with industry best practices and regulatory requirements. Requirements : Experience : - 3 years of proven and demonstrable experience as a Data Modeler, with a significant portion of that experience focused on data modeling within the Azure data engineering stack. - Hands-on experience with ADF, Azure Databricks, SCD implementation, and a strong understanding of data modeling considerations within these services. - Experience with data modeling concepts and integration within Azure Unity Catalog for data governance. - Familiarity with how data models are utilized and optimized within PySpark environments. - Expertise in using data modeling tools, specifically Power Designer and Biz Designer. - Strong understanding of various data modeling methodologies (e.g., relational, dimensional, star schema, snowflake schema). - Solid understanding of database design principles, SQL, and different database types (relational and NoSQL). - Experience in defining and enforcing data governance standards. - Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences. - Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
