True North Systems Engineering is a London-based collective of contractors with deep expertise in software engineering, infrastructure, and machine learning at scale. We’re a group that thrives on collaboration, bringing together our networks, skills, and creative sparks to drive our ventures forward. We’re not your typical crew—what binds us is a shared obsession with quantitative finance. Recently, we decided to take it up a notch by channeling profits from our contracting gigs into a joint investment venture: ROI25. ROI25 combines the ML and Econometrics know-how in our collective into a proof-of-concept trading system tailored for FinTech SMEs as well as retail investors. Our system is sharp at spotting market momentum and forecasting asset trends, already hitting solid accuracy on fresh data. It’s live and kicking, pulling real-time assets data through custom-built APIs and continuous ML training pipelines. For reasons bigger than us—and a bit of serendipity—both our servers and one of our team members have landed in Palermo, Sicily. That’s why we’re now on the hunt for two on-site hires to join. Our vision is to establish a dedicated, long-term software development hub in Palermo. We’re searching for someone early in their career, eager to grow and learn under our wing as we shape them into a well-rounded professional. The ideal candidate has a burning curiosity for data and algorithms, isn’t daunted by diving into a financial econometrics research paper, and brings some familiarity with backend development. You’ll be working on refining our trading system, blending econometrics with our ML pipelines, and helping us expand its reach. This doesn't end here though, we need help with a number of projects which range from Data Science to Software Engineering and Architecture. Our current stack is mainly Python and NodeJS, Terraform for our infrastructure. I’ve written this in English because some fluency in the language is key to thriving in this role—think reading docs, collaborating with the team, and keeping up with global FinTech trends. That said, native-level fluency isn’t a must. I’m the lead developer for ROI25, based in Palermo, and I speak Italian fluently. We are looking for our new hires to start in June and the compensation will be commensurate to experience.
