Network Security L3 Engineer - Routing & Switching

Job Summary : The Level 3 Network Engineer will be responsible for the advanced design, implementation, management, and troubleshooting of our enterprise WAN connecting more than 1000 locations. This role requires deep expertise in Cisco, Fortinet, Aruba and other technologies to maintain a high-performance, secure, and resilient network that supports our growing business. The successful candidate will collaborate with cross-functional IT teams, provide escalation support, and drive network optimization to ensure uninterrupted service for employees, customers, and critical systems. Key Responsibilities : - Network Design & Implementation : Design, configure, and deploy WAN, LAN, and wireless network solutions using Cisco (routers, switches, Nexus platforms), Fortinet (firewalls, VPNs), and Aruba (wireless controllers, access points) technologies to support more than 1000 locations and future growth. - Network Management : Monitor and maintain the enterprise network to ensure 24/7 availability, performance, and scalability, addressing the needs of employees, customers, and connected machines. - Troubleshooting & Escalation Support : Provide Level 3 support for complex network issues, including root cause analysis and resolution of outages, latency, or connectivity problems across the WAN. - Security & Compliance : Implement and manage Fortinet / Cisco and other firewalls / SDWAN / VPNs, and intrusion prevention systems to secure the network, ensuring compliance with organizational security policies and industry standards. - Capacity Planning : Anticipate network demands from 10% annual store growth, recommending and implementing upgrades to hardware, bandwidth, or configurations as needed. - Wireless Network Management : Oversee Aruba/ Cisco and other wireless infrastructure, ensuring optimal coverage, capacity, and performance for stores and warehouses. - Collaboration : Work closely with Level 1/2 support teams, vendors, and other IT groups to resolve issues, deploy new technologies, and support business initiatives. - Documentation : Maintain detailed network diagrams, configurations, and procedures using tools like Visio or SolarWinds, ensuring accurate records for troubleshooting and audits. - Change Management : Plan and execute network changes (e.g., upgrades, patches, new site deployments) with minimal disruption, adhering to change control processes. - Performance Optimization : Proactively monitor network performance using tools like SolarWinds or Cisco Prime, identifying and resolving bottlenecks to maintain an always-on environment. - Vendor Coordination : Liaise with Cisco, Fortinet, Aruba, and ISP vendors for support, hardware replacements (RMAs), and service escalations. - Mentorship : Provide technical guidance and training to junior network staff to build team : Education : Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience). Experience : - Minimum 8 years of hands-on network engineering experience in large-scale enterprise environments. - Proven experience managing WANs supporting 500 sites, preferably in retail or distributed operations. - Extensive expertise with Cisco (e.g., Catalyst, Nexus, ISR/ASR routers), Fortinet (e.g., FortiGate firewalls, FortiManager), and Aruba (e.g., wireless controllers, ClearPass). - Experience with network deployments for new site openings or expansions is a plus. Certifications (Preferred) : - Cisco CCNP (Enterprise or Routing & Switching) or CCIE. - Fortinet NSE 4 or higher. - Aruba ACMP (Aruba Certified Mobility Professional) or equivalent. Technical Skills : - Advanced knowledge of routing protocols (e.g., BGP, OSPF) and switching technologies (e.g., VLANs, STP). - Proficiency in configuring and troubleshooting Fortinet firewalls, IPsec VPNs, and SDWAN solutions. - Hands-on experience with Aruba wireless deployments, including RF design and troubleshooting. - Familiarity with network monitoring tools (e.g., SolarWinds, Wireshark). - Understanding of QoS, MPLS, and VoIP for optimizing traffic across a WAN. - Configuration and troubleshooting DHCP. Soft Skills : - Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to work under pressure during outages. - Excellent communication skills to collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders. - Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment. Working Conditions : - Availability for on-call support and occasional after-hours work to address critical network issues or planned maintenance. - Occasional Travel to client locations may be required for deployments or troubleshooting.
