EU Commercial Director Legal Cannabis Industry Location: The Netherlands. You must be willing to visit the Amsterdam/Harlem Office at least twice a month. As one of the first online health & wellness platforms established in the early 2000s, they have built a strong global reputation for providing high-quality CBD, medicinal herbs & plants, health foods, superfoods, Shamanic Plants, Plant-based foods, Nutraceuticals, and holistic health solutions, including ethnobotanicals such as Kambo, Blue Lotus, and Kratom, directly to consumers. Two entrepreneurs with a significant background in the CBD, cannabis, and the legal highs industry recently acquired the business from the founding family. They are now focused on transforming this well-established family business into a market leader in the legal cannabis and health & wellness sectors. The company owns its facility and warehouse in Amsterdam, where it sources and formulates natural ingredients on-site, and then distributes them across Europe in key markets such as Germany, Spain, the Netherlands, and Portugal. Historically, the company has operated primarily as an online D2C business but now seeks an EU Commercial Director to drive growth through retail, wholesale, and B2B distribution channels across Europe. Despite its 25-year legacy, the company runs with a startup mentality and a lean team of 10, so it’s looking for a hands-on, commercially driven leader who can both strategize and execute. Job Summary You will be responsible for driving the company’s international commercial strategy. Reporting directly to the CEO, this role plays a pivotal part in developing and executing a sales strategy focused on both new business generation and managing an existing client base. In this hands-on role, you will work closely with the CEO to expand the company’s presence across international markets, identifying distributors, wholesalers, and potential retail partners. As the business continues to grow, you will take on increasing managerial responsibilities, leading and directing an expanding international sales team. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of hands-on sales and leadrship across international regions, a strategic mindset, and the ability to thrive in a dynamic, entrepreneurial setting. Key Responsibilities Sales Leadership Lead the company’s sales strategy, with a primary focus on retail locations, wholesale partnerships, Distributors & chains of shops in Netherlands and across Europe. Drive revenue growth through new business generation and strategic use of existing networks within the cannabis, CBD, or health-oriented sectors. Ensure that the company’s products align with customer needs, profitability targets, and order fulfillment feasibility. Industry Expertise Leverage industry knowledge, on CBD, cannabis and medicinal herbs especially regarding legal complexities, to guide sales and product strategies. Utilize industry expertise to build relationships and expand the company’s footprint in key markets such as Germany, Spain, and the Netherlands. Strategic Sales Planning Develop and implement sales strategies that align with market trends and the company’s growth objectives. Prioritize sales opportunities that maximize profit and align with the company’s capacity for fulfilling orders. Team Leadership & Structuring Build a high-performing sales team capable of driving expansion and achieving sales targets. Oversee the development of effective logistical processes, including stock management, to ensure smooth operations as the company scales. Startup Mindset & Operational Efficiency Operate in a startup-like environment despite the company’s established presence, helping to create systems and structures to support growth. Work closely with operational teams to streamline logistics, procurement, and inventory management, ensuring efficiency and scalability. Market Development & Relationship Management Strengthening and expanding relationships with key customers, suppliers, and strategic partners. Identify new market opportunities and adapt sales strategies to meet evolving customer demands and market conditions. Performance & Compliance Monitor performance metrics and provide regular reports to assess sales targets, team performance, and growth progress. Ensure compliance with industry regulations and internal standards. Qualifications You must have proven experience in a senior commercial sales role, with a strong track record in sales, account management and business development preferably in the cannabis, CBD, or consumer Health & wellness industries such as vitamins, natural herbs, medicinal plants, health foods, superfoods, plant-based foods, Vitamins, Nutraceuticals Experience working in a startup, small or young business. Or working in a small unit part of a larger company is highly desirable. Solid understanding of retail, distribution, wholesale, and chain sales, with the ability to navigate the unique legal landscapes in markets like Germany, Spain, and the Netherlands. Strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor and build a high-performing sales team. Strategic thinker with a focus on profitability, operational efficiency, and market expansion. Comfortable working in a less-structured environment with a startup mentality, proactive in building processes and systems. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills. Hands on. You can strategize, and execute Compensation & Benefits €80,000 to €110,000 base salary with potential flexibility for superstars Performance-based bonus on top of base salary Flexible and remote work.
