Job Description

This position is located in the Fitness Division, Aquatics Branch of the Morale, Welfare and Recreation Department, at Naval Air Station Jacksonville, Florida. The primary purpose of this position is to lead and coordinate the daily operations of the Pools. This is a seasonal position.

NAS Jacksonville is located in Duval County, Florida, within the city limits of Jacksonville. The base sits on a piece of land between the St. Johns River and Ortega River historically called Black Point. The airbase is part of the overall Jacksonville Naval Complex, a collection of Navy Bases in the Jacksonville Metropolitan Area that include Naval Station Mayport, the former Naval Air Station Cecil Field (now Cecil Airport), Naval Outlying Landing Field Whitehouse, and the Pinecastle Range Complex. It also neighbors a small ghost town called Yukon. Qualifying experience must have been equivalent to the next lower level in the normal line of progression. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Must possess all special requirements along with sufficient maturity to focus on the importance of due diligence of patrons at all times; ability to exercise control over a large group of people; ability to appropriately identify hazards or hazard situations; and identify a patron's need for assistance vice general play immediately. Must act decisively and immediately in any situation which could result in harm to a patron-either by identifying a patron in distress, or by the ability to tactfully but forcefully provide instruction on water safety and facility rules and regulations and enforce them. Must have all the qualifications for lifeguard PLUS; Must have a minimum of one (]) year previous experience. Must be a mature individual with leadership abilities, who can exercise control over a large group of people. Must be able to direct the work of subordinate staff, deal appropriately with conflicts, possess the ability to schedule work, appropriately deal with last-minute changes and make appropriate alternate arrangements, and evaluate performance. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
