Job Description

The Murdock Group are looking to recruit an IT Infrastructure Engineer to add to our growing IT Team to oversee technology services for four primary brands: Murdock Builders Merchants, Brooks Timber and Building Supplies Ltd, The Lotus Group, and Dublin Plywood & Veneer Company Limited (DPV). Murdock Builders Merchants, established in 1982 and headquartered in Newry, Northern Ireland, has expanded to 14 branches and two timber processing facilities, becoming a prominent supplier of building materials across Ireland. Brooks is a leading timber and builders' merchant in the Republic of Ireland, with a history dating back to the late 1700s, supplying timber products and building materials through a network of seven branches across Ireland. The Lotus Group specializes in asset and property management services, focusing on retail, leisure, and residential sectors, and is known for its innovative approach to enhancing asset value. DPV, founded in 1946, supplies panel products to the furniture trade in Ireland, offering items such as chipboard, plywood, Flexi ply, flooring, laminates, and fire door blanks. Collectively, these brands represent a significant presence in the construction and property management industries across Ireland and the UK. IT Infrastructure Engineer Role Summary The IT Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for supporting and maintaining on-premise and cloud infrastructure, ensuring the stability, security, and efficiency of IT systems across the organisation. This role involves handling networking, cybersecurity, servers, disaster recovery, and L3 support, working closely with the Infrastructure Manager to implement IT strategies and improvements. Postholder will be required to cover all four companies above and the role will be hybrid but primarily based in Murdock Builders Merchants, Head Office, Greenbank Industrial Estate, Newry. Key Responsibilities Manage and maintain on-premise and cloud infrastructure (Azure, Windows Server, Active Directory, Citrix, VMware, etc.). Support branch connectivity, troubleshooting VPNs, SD-WAN, routers, and firewalls. Provide L3 support for escalated technical issues related to servers, networks, and security. Monitor and maintain disaster recovery (DR) and business continuity plans. Ensure cybersecurity best practices, including firewalls, EDR, and vulnerability management. Manage server backups, patching, and system updates. Work with ERP teams to support system availability, database performance, and integration. Assist in IT infrastructure projects, including system upgrades and migrations. Maintain IT documentation, policies, and procedures. Support vendor management and procurement for IT hardware and infrastructure services. Qualification & Skills Bachelors degree in IT, Computer Science, or a related field. 2 years of experience in IT infrastructure, system administration, or network engineering. Strong knowledge of Microsoft technologies (Windows Server, Azure, Active Directory, M365, Hyper-V). Experience with firewalls, networking (SonicWall, Cisco, Fortinet, Meraki), and VPNs. Knowledge of remote access technologies (Citrix / RDP) Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices and experience with enterprise security tools. Experience in backup solutions, disaster recovery, and high-availability configurations. Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues. IT certifications (CCNA, MCSE, Azure, CISSP) are a plus. Postholder must have a Right to Work within the UK/Ireland.
