Mechanic Helper

Job Description Job Description JOB SUMMARY: Under supervision, services and repairs automotive air-cooled vehicles and/or water-cooled equipment and machines; performs related work as required. Work involves regular contact with other departments and divisions. WORK SCHEDULE: EVENINGS FROM 2:00 PM - 10:30 PM ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Washes, changes oil, lubricates, fills equipment with gas, changes and repairs tires on automotive equipment. Keeps complete records of gasoline usage. Performs minor repairs to vehicles and equipment. Assists mechanics in major preventive maintenance or repair work, and a variety of semi-skilled maintenance tasks. Picks up and returns vehicles, makes road calls of a service nature and picks up parts from commercial parts shops. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from high school and some experience in performing routine servicing of automotive equipment or equivalent combination of education and experience that produces the following: Knowledge of automotive servicing, heavy truck repair, landscape equipment and light mechanical repair work. Knowledge of the tools and equipment used in servicing of automotive equipment. Ability to read and write work-related job instructions in English. Ability to understand and follow moderately complex oral and written instructions. Ability to maintain equipment-servicing schedules, records and reports. Ability to learn basic automotive procedures and safety precautions. Ability to operate equipment that requires a high degree of manipulative skill. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a valid California driver’s license. Ability to obtain a valid Class A Commercial Motor Vehicle Operator's License.
